Odd Years (i.e. 2011, 2013, etc.)
IDBF World CompetitionsFor ODD years such as 2011, the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) hosts the IDBF World Championships. This race is held in different locations around the world where participants represent their country (member nation). This
year the 2011 IDBF Worlds was help in Tampa, FL., hosted by the United
States Dragon Boat Federation (USDBF). The 2013 IDBF Worlds will be
held in Budapest, Hungary.
Even Years (i.e. 2012, 2014, etc.)
IDBF Club Crew World Competitions (CCWC)
The CCWC is the IDBF Club Crew
World Championships. Each
region in the US is allotted a seat for each division. The winners of
each division at the PDBA Regional Championships/CCWC Qualifiers will be
able to represent the US, along with the other winners from the other 3
regions. If the 1st place team does not want to go to Hong Kong, then
the slot is offered tot he 2nd place team, etc.. If we have no teams
representing a particular division, then the slot goes back to the USDBF
and will be open to competing teams from other regions. All of our 1st
place winners will receive the traveling trophy until the next race.
This is open only to PDBA Members.
CCWC (Even
years)- The IDBF World Club Crew Championships are held every even year
at a different location around the world- this last summer was in
Macau. Each country has their own qualifying criteria. In the U.S. we
are divided into 3 major regions, and traditionally had teams qualify
from each regional championship (East, Middle, West) that was held in
the odd years- so the 2009 regional champs qualified for the 2010 CCWC.
We also had an “at large” bid available at the discretion of the USDBF
for a 4th qualifier. So a club could qualify for the
following year’s CCWC in several ways: win your own regional qualifier,
travel to another region and qualify that way, or look for a slot that
does not get filled in one of the regions and petition to take that
slot. Often teams may win their regional championship but not be able
to attend the following years CCWC.
